IARU Region 1 VHF Contest 2022

Compte rendu du contest IARU R1 VHF des 3 et 4 septembre 2022. J’ai été actif environ 17 heures sur les 24 que compte le contest. Comme d’habitude, je me suis attaché principalement à chercher les DX’s (mode “S&P”), pas nécessairement à faire beaucoup de QSO’s mais finalement j’ai quand-même un peu appelé “CQ”, surtout le dimanche. Quelques beaux DX à la clé, en particulier TK0C en JN42QX, avec de très bons signaux.
Station utilisée : 2×9 él. DK7ZB et 1,2kW

Report of the IARU R1 VHF contest of September 3rd and 4th 2022. I was active for about 17 hours out of the 24 hours of the contest. As usual, I was mainly looking for DX’s (“S&P” mode), not necessarily doing a lot of QSO’s but finally I did call “CQ” a bit, mainly on Sunday. Some nice DX’s, especially TK0C in JN42QX, with very good signals.

144 MHz Tropo to / vers IT9 !

Dimanche 2 janvier 2022, une ouverture inespérée s’est produite sur 144 MHz, un “duct” vers la Sicile (IT9) ! Il s’agissait bien de Tropo, IT9GSF (Fabio) était visible sur mon écran en FT8 durant environ 4h30 (13h24 > 17h52 UTC), avec un QSB lent. J’ai eu la chance de contacter Fabio dans l’après-midi, il est situé en JM67SS, soit à 1615 km de moi. Vu le niveau des signaux, un contact n’aurait pas été possible en SSB ni en CW, seul le FT8 le permettait. Plus tôt dans la journée, Frank, PA4EME avait aussi déjà spotté IT9GSF (merci Frank). On Sunday 2 January 2022, an unexpected opening occurred on 144 MHz, a “duct” to Sicily (IT9)! It was well Tropo, IT9GSF (Fabio) was visible on my screen in FT8 for around 4h30 (13h24 > 17h52 UTC), with a slow QSB. I was lucky enough to contact Fabio in the afternoon, he is located in JM67SS, 1615 km from me. Given the signal level, contact would not have been possible in SSB nor CW, only FT8 allowed it. L’amélioration des conditions de propagation (“duct”) sur la Mer Méditerranée est clairement visible sur la carte de W. Hepburn. Encore fallait-il avoir la géométrie adéquate pour pouvoir entrer dans ce duct.

The improvement of the propagation conditions (“duct”) on the Mediterranean Sea is clearly visible on the map of W. Hepburn. However, it was necessary to have the right geometry to be able to enter this duct.

Station 10 GHz

Après 20 ans d’absence, je suis de retour sur 10 GHz depuis août 2021. Ma station reste toutefois modeste, à savoir 2,5W dans une parabole prime focus de 48 cm. En janvier 2022, la stabilisation en fréquence (bien nécessaire !) a été apportée par un OCXO de DF9LN en ma possession depuis 2001 mais jamais monté auparavant. Ca n’est pas encore aussi stable qu’un GPSDO mais c’est déjà infiniment mieux que le quartz natif du transverter. Mes “réalisations” sur 10 GHz sont visibles ici.

After 20 years of absence, I’m back on 10 GHz since August 2021. My station remains modest, however, i.e. 2,5W into a 48 cm prime focus dish. In January 2022, frequency stabilization (much needed !) has been added thanks to a DF9LN OCXO in my possession since 2001 but never mounted so far. It’s still not as stable as a GPSDO but it’s already infinitely better than the native quartz of the transverter. My “achievements” on 10 GHz are visible here.

Exactement 25 ans après l’obtention de ma licence de radio-amateur (le 30/11/1987), j’ai reçu le 1/12/2012 mon certificat (n° 97) relatif au DXCC 2m. Il est le résultat de nombreux efforts…et de l’évolution technologique (EME numérique). Cet objectif a été atteint avec pas plus de 300W et maximum 15,5 dBd de gain d’antenne. Parmi les 100 DXCC’s, 99 ont été contactés avec une antenne sans élévation.
