Compte rendu du contest IARU VHF des 1er et 2 septembre 2018. J’ai été actif durant seulement 7h30 sur les 24 que compte le contest. Bonne propagation dans toutes les directions, sauf peut-être vers le nord. Toutefois pas de signaux super QRO, mais la possibilité de faire des QSO plus facilement que d’habitude, notamment OM3KII contacté en SSB alors que les fois précédentes c’était en CW. Etant donné mon temps d’activité limité, je me suis attaché à chercher les DX plutôt qu’appeler CQ ; je n’ai fait que quelques rares sessions d’appel, ce qui explique le nombre limité de QSO’s et la moyenne km/QSO elevée. Un très bon contest donc que celui de cette année, avec 20 QSO’s à plus de 800 km. L’activité était également assez soutenue. 7 stations EA contactées, 6 stations I, 3 stations GM, 2 stations SP,…

Activity report of the IARU VHF contest of September 1st and 2nd, 2018. I have been active during only 7h30 amongst the 24 the contest lasts. Good propagation all around, except perhaps to the North. No super QRO signals though, but the possibility to make QSO’s easier than usual, in particular OM3KII worked in SSB whereas it has always been in CW so far. Given my limited activity time, I have been focussing on searching for DX’s instead of calling CQ ; I have just made some rare calling sessions, which explains the limited amount of QSO’s and the high km/QSO average. So, a very good contest the one of this year, with 20 QSO’s beyond 800 km. The activity was fairly strong too. 7 EA stations worked, 6 I stations, 3 GM stations, 2 SP stations,…

Compte rendu du contest subregional VHF des 7 et 8 juillet 2018, j’ai été actif durant environ 10 heures sur les 24 que compte le contest. Propagation relativement bonne le samedi après-midi, surtout vers l’est (le signal de SN7L était très fort). Beaucoup de recherche de DX et quelques rares sessions de CQ de temps-en-temps, ce qui explique le faible nombre de QSO’s. Entendu TK/F1NSR en JN42QR mais le QSO n’a pu être complété. J’ai trouvé qu’il y avait moins de stations allemandes que d’habitude.

Activity report of the subregional VHF contest of July 7th and 8th, 2018, I have been active during around 10 hours amongst the 24 the contests lasts. Fairly good propagation on the Saturday afternoon, mainly to the East (the signal from SN7L was very strong). I was particularly focussing on searching for DX, next to rare CQ sessions from time to time, which explains the limited amount of QSO’s. Heard TK/F1NSR in JN42QR but the QSO couldn’t be completed. I have found there were less German stations than usual.

Compte rendu du contest subregional VHF des 5 et 6 mai 2018, j’ai été actif durant environ 12 heures sur les 24 que compte le contest, des activités familiales et un superbe WX m’ont davantage tenté que de rester tout le WE dans le shack… Propagation relativement bonne à certains moments, même si les signaux des DX n’étaient vraiment pas très forts, souvent au niveau du bruit. Pas étonnant donc que parmi les 14 QSO’s distants de plus de 800 km, 8 aient été contactés en CW ! Beaucoup de recherche de DX et quelques sessions de CQ de temps-en-temps, souvent fructueuses d’ailleurs, avec de nombreuses réponses dont EI3KD, EA2TO et d’autres. Plusieurs fois mes correspondants m’ont dit “Ah, enfin une station belge, il n’y en a pas beaucoup…”. Je voudrais souligner l’excellente prestation de ON8CF/P depuis JO20SS (près de Tongeren), voilà à nouveau une station ON compétitive, félicitations les amis !
Bref, un contest très plaisant, avec assez bien d’activité, d’autant que les stations G n’étaient pas en contest cette fois.

Activity report of the subregional VHF contest of May 5th and 6th, 2018, I have been active during around 12 hours amongst the 24 the contests lasts, family activities and a superb WX tempted me more than staying the whole WE in the shack… Good propagation at times, even though the DX signals weren’t quite strong, often at noise level. No wonder then that amongst the 14 QSO’s further than 800 km apart, 8 of them have been worked in CW ! I was mainly focussing on searching for DX, next to a few CQ sessions from time to time. These were even often fruitful, with many answers, including EI3KD, EA2TO and others. Several times my QSO partners told me “Ah, finally a Belgian station, there aren’t many…”. I’d like to highlight the excellent job of ON8CF/P from JO20SS (near Tongeren), at least a competitive ON station again, congrats my friends !
In brief, a very pleasant contest, with a fair amount of activity, even more the G stations weren’t in contest this time.

Compte rendu du contest MMC VHF des 4 et 5 novembre 2017 ; il s’agit du seul contest VHF dédié uniquement à la CW. J’ai été actif durant seulement 8 heures sur les 24 que compte le contest. Propagation très standard, WX automnal. Quelques beaux DX quand-même, souvent au niveau du bruit, avec un QSB favorable permettant de compléter les QSO’s. Plusieurs essais durant le contest avec OM3KII, tous négatifs sauf le dernier, à 2 minutes de la fin du contest : OM3KII était alors 529 ! Le meilleur DX contacté fût IQ5NN en JN63GN, à 1016 km. La cerise sur le gâteau fût quand-même le QSO avec 9A1P, c’est la première fois que je contacte la Croatie en tropo (ce n’était pas du MS) durant un contest. Très peu d’activité en France, Pays-Bas et Belgique ; j’ai contacté plus de stations tchèques que de stations locales belges (2)…

Activity report of the MMC VHF contest of November 4th and 5th, 2017 ; it is the only VHF contest exclusively dedicated to CW. I have been active during only 8 hours amongst the 24 the contests lasts. Very standard propagation, autumnal WX. A few nice DX nevertheless, often at noise level, with favourable QSB allowing to complete the QSO’s. Several trials during the contest with OM3KII, all unsuccessful except the last one, 2 minutes before the end of the contest : OM3KII was then 529 ! The best DX worked was IQ5NN in JN63GN, at 1016 km. The cherry on the cake was however the QSO with 9A1P, it is the first time I work Croatia in tropo (it was not MS) during a contest. Very low activity rate from France, The Netherlands and Belgium ; I worked more Czech stations than local Belgian ones (2)…

Compte rendu du contest IARU VHF des 2 et 3 septembre 2017. J’ai été actif durant 20 heures sur les 24 que compte le contest (le break de 4 heures, c’était pour dormir). Propagation assez moyenne, pas de réelle ouverture dans un quelconque azimut, sauf peut-être vers l’Italie (4 stations assez faciles à contacter et avec de bons signaux). 17 QSO’s à plus de 800 km et 21 en CW. Activité toujours un peu plus faible d’année en année, du moins vu d’ici car les scores de DR9A et DA0FF (> 1000 QSO’s) sont impressionnants ! Ou alors, c’est dû aux antennes 2×9 él. utilisées ici pour la première fois durant un contest IARU ; le lobe de rayonnement dans le plan horizontal est plus étroit que ma 12 él. précédente, ce qui n’est pas un avantage en contest. Autrement, le score réalisé est mon nouveau record en termes de points et de carrés locators contactés ! Mais c’est aussi la première fois que j’utilise 1kW durant un tel contest. Merci à tous ceux qui m’ont appelé, chaque QSO compte.

Activity report of the IARU VHF contest of September 2nd and 3rd, 2017. I have been active during 20 hours amongst the 24 the contest lasts (the 4 hours break was to sleep). Average propagation conditions, no real opening in any azimuth but perhaps to Italy (4 stations easy to work and with good signals). 17 QSO’s above 800 km and 21 in CW. Activity always lower from year to year, at least seen from here because the scores of DR9A and DA0FF are quite impressive ! Or this is due to the 2×9 el. antennas used here for the first time ever in an IARU contest ; the horizontal radiation pattern is narrower than my former 12 el., which is not a benefit in contest. Otherwize, the score achieved both in terms of points and worked locator squares is my new personnal record ! It is also the first time I’m using 1kW during such a contest. Thanks to everyone who called me, every QSO counts.
