Compte rendu du contest VUSHF subrégional des 2 et 3 mars 2024. Participation limitée (comme d’habitude) et mélange de “chasse” aux DX’s (mode S&P) et d’appels (mode Run). Propagation assez standard sur 144 MHz, avec toutefois une activité relativement bonne pour un contest de mars. Je ne me suis pas ennuyé, même si j’ai connu bien mieux comme contest. Côté France, par contre, le taux de participation est de plus-en-plus faible… A part TM5R, toutes les stations françaises contactées avaient un faible nombre de QSO’s. Sur 10 GHz, participation anecdotique, uniquement 6 QSO’s.

Report of the subregional VUSHF contest held on 2 and 3 March 2024. Limited participation (as usual) and a mixture of “DX hunting” (S&P mode) and calling (Run mode). Propagation was fairly standard on 144 MHz, although activity was relatively good for a March contest. I wasn’t bored, even though I’ve had much better contests. In France, on the other hand, the participation rate is getting lower and lower… Apart from TM5R, all the French stations I contacted had a low number of QSOs. On 10 GHz, participation was anecdotal, with only 6 QSO’s. Station used: 2×9 el. DK7ZB + 1.2kW on 144 MHz and 48 cm dish + 3W on 10 GHz.

IARU Region 1 VHF Contest 2023
Compte rendu du contest IARU R1 VHF des 2 et 3 septembre 2023. J’ai été actif environ 18 heures sur les 24 que compte le contest. Cette fois, ma participation consistait en l’alternance de recherche des DX et d’appels “CQ”. Alors que les prévisions indiquaient des conditions de propagation supérieures à la normale, je n’ai pas trouvé que çe fût vraiment le cas, à part peut-être le dimanche matin, à la faveur de l’inversion de température matinale (brouillard). Très bonne activité au Royaume-Uni et en Allemagne. Content du résultat, c’est la première fois que je contacte plus de 100 carrés locator et plus de 20 DXCC durant un contest VHF. C’est aussi mon meilleur score, avec presque 180.000 points. Plus bas, en dessous de la carte, j’ai mis un enregistrement de mon QSO avec IK4ZIF (JN44). Station utilisée : 2×9 él. DK7ZB et 1,2kW
Report of the IARU R1 VHF contest held on 2 and 3 September 2023. I was active for about 18 of the 24 hours of the contest. This time, my participation consisted of alternating DX searches and “CQ” calls. Although the forecasts indicated that propagation conditions would be better than normal, I didn’t really find that to be the case, except perhaps on Sunday morning, due to the morning temperature inversion (fog). Very good activity in the UK and Germany. I’m pleased with the result, as it’s the first time I’ve contacted more than 100 locator squares and more than 20 DXCC’s during a VHF contest. It’s also my best score ever, with almost 180,000 points. Further down, below the map, I’ve put a recording of my QSO with IK4ZIF (JN44). Station used : 2×9 el. DK7ZB and 1,2kW

Compte rendu du contest VUSHF subrégional des 1er et 2 juillet 2023. Comme d’habitude, participation limitée, mais cette fois ce fût un mélange de “chasse” aux DX’s et d’appels. Propagation assez standard sur 144 MHz, avec toutefois une ouverture vers l’Espagne le dimanche matin. Ecoutez ci-dessous la force du signal reçu de EA1FCH/P, pourtant à près de 1200 km. Plus de QSO’s random et moins de prises de skeds sur KST que d’habitude. Sur 10 GHz, participation anecdotique, uniquement 5 QSO’s et moins de 200 km comme “ODX”.

Report of the sub-regional VUSHF contest held on 1 and 2 July 2023. As usual, my participation was limited, but this time it was a mix of DX “chasing” and calling. Propagation was fairly standard on 144 MHz, although there was an opening towards Spain on Sunday morning. Listen below to the strength of the signal received from EA1FCH/P, despite being nearly 1200 km away. More random QSO’s and fewer skeds taken on KST than usual. On 10 GHz, participation was anecdotal, with only 5 QSO’s and less than 200 km as “ODX”.

Subregional VHF Contest May/Mai 2023
Compte rendu du contest VUSHF subrégional des 6 et 7 mai 2023. Comme d’habitude, participation limitée, surtout le dimanche, où je n’ai été actif que durant 3 heures en tout. Propagation très médiocre le samedi sur 144 MHz, signaux dans l’ensemble faibles. Sur 10 GHz, il y avait un peu de rain-scatter (RS) relativement local, pas de grands DX possibles donc. Essai infructueux avec DK0NA (JO50TI), que j’ai toutefois très bien entendu jusqu’à 579 (mais furtivement) en airplane-scatter (AS). Côté France, si les “Journées d’activité hyper” stimulent bien l’activité, les contests subrégionaux ne génèrent que peu, voire pas d’intérêt. C’est dommage. J’ai contacté F6DKW et F5HRY (merci à eux) comme seules stations françaises sur 10 GHz. Sur 144 MHz, avant de passer QRT pour la nuit le samedi soir, le meilleur DX était OM2Y à 990 km (en CW). J’ai entendu à plusieurs reprises EA2DR (IN83FD) à 1005 km mais mes appels sont restés sans réponse (?!). Sur 10 GHz, il n’y avait alors que 7 QSO’s dans le log. F5HRY en était le meilleur DX (242 km). Dimanche matin, tôt, avant de passer QRT jusque +/- 12h UTC en raison d’une compétition sportive, les stations OK étaient particulièrement fortes sur 144 MHz, si bien que OM3KII était contacté facilement en SSB (1006 km). Ecoutez l’enregistrement audio plus bas, en fin de publication. Vient ensuite dans le log OM5ZW en JN98AS (1032 km) contacté en CW. Reprise de l’activité à 12h30 UTC, il y a du rain-scatter sur 10 GHz… 9 QSO’s (certains en random, sans prise de sked) sont ajoutés au log, dont DK0NA (542 km), contacté en RS via un scatter point en JN39. Ecoutez l’enregistrement du QSO ci-dessous. Le contest prend fin avec un total de 16 QSO’s sur 10 GHz et 106 sur 144 MHz, en privilégiant la recherche des DX (mode S&P) plutôt que les sessions d’appels (mode Run). Sur 144, j’ai été appelé par EA4LU (IM68TV). Il s’agissait évidemment d’un burst météor-scatter (MS) mais la réflexion n’a pas duré assez longtemps que pour compléter le QSO. Plusieurs essais avec IO2V et IQ4KD (tous les deux en JN54) sont restés infructueux, ce qui est très rare ! Petite remarque sur la prise de skeds via ON4KST : certaines stations demandent des skeds “tous azimuths”, sans nécessairement tourner les antennes vers le correspondant sollicité… c’est évidemment une perte de temps !

Report of the sub-regional VUSHF contest of May 6 and 7, 2023. As usual, limited participation, especially on Sunday, where I was only active for 3 hours in total. Very poor propagation on Saturday on 144 MHz, overall weak signals. On 10 GHz there was some relatively local rain-scatter (RS), so no great DX possible. Unsuccessful attempt with DK0NA (JO50TI), which I heard very well up to 579 (but furtively) in airplane-scatter (AS). On the French side, if the “Journées d’activité hyper” stimulate the activity, the subregional contests generate little or no interest. This is a shame. I contacted F6DKW and F5HRY (thanks to them) as the only French stations on 10 GHz. On 144 MHz, before going QRT for the night on Saturday evening, the best DX was OM2Y at 990 km (in CW). I heard EA2DR (IN83FD) several times at 1005 km but my calls were not answered (?!). On 10 GHz, there were only 7 QSO’s in the log by then. F5HRY was the best DX (242 km). Early Sunday morning, before going QRT until +/- 12h00 UTC due to a sports competition, the OK stations were particularly strong on 144 MHz, so that OM3KII was easily contacted in SSB (1006 km). Listen to the audio recording below, at the end of the publication. Next in the log is OM5ZW in JN98AS (1032 km), contacted in CW. Activity resumes at 12h30 UTC, there is rain-scatter on 10 GHz… 9 QSO’s (some in random, without sked) are added to the log, including DK0NA (542 km), contacted in RS via a scatter point in JN39. The contest ends with a total of 16 QSO’s on 10 GHz and 106 on 144 MHz, with the emphasis on DX search (S&P mode) rather than calling sessions (Run mode). On 144, I was called by EA4LU (IM68TV). It was obviously a meteor-scatter (MS) burst but the reflection did not last long enough to complete the QSO. Several attempts with IO2V and IQ4KD (both in JN54) were unsuccessful, which is very rare!
A small remark on sked taking via ON4KST: some stations ask for “all azimuths” skeds, without necessarily turning the antennas towards the requested correspondent… it is obviously a waste of time!

Subregional VHF Contest March/Mars 2023
Compte rendu du contest VHF subrégional des 4 et 5 mars 2023. Je n’ai été actif que durant seulement 6 heures dans ce contest. Le samedi matin, avant le contest, la propagation était prometteuse, j’ai contacté facilement OM4CW sur 144 MHz en CW. Il opérait depuis la station de contest OM3W, en JN99CH (un peu plus de 1000 km de chez moi).
Durant le contest, c’était une autre histoire, la propagation étant (re)devenue juste “normale”. Comme d’habitude, j’ai cherché les DX mais il n’y en avait pas beaucoup… En particulier, nettement moins de stations OK que d’habitude ! Côté France, TM5R produisait des signaux impressionnants mais il semble y avoir de moins en moins de stations club qui participent aux contests en France. Du coup, j’ai fait quelques sessions de “run” (des appels). Contre toute attente, chacun de mes appels avait presque chaque fois une réponse, tant côté DL que G/GW. C’était très plaisant ! La moyenne/QSO est bien inférieure à celle des contests précédents.
Très petite participation aussi sur 10 GHz, je n’ai fait que 3 QSO’s sur cette bande. Je ne suis pas actif sur 23 et 13 cm, je dois dès lors prendre des skeds 10 GHz sur ON4KST mais peu d’activité également de ce côté.
Radomir, OK5RA a eu la gentillesse de m’envoyer un enregistrement de mes signaux SSB chez OK2O (908 km) durant le contest. L’enregistrement se trouve en-dessous de la carte, plus bas.

Report of the sub-regional VHF contest of March 4th and 5th, 2023. I was only active for 6 hours in this contest. On Saturday morning, before the contest, the propagation was promising, I easily worked OM4CW on 144 MHz in CW. He was operating from the contest station OM3W, in JN99CH (a little more than 1000 km from my home). During the contest, it was a different story, as the propagation had become (back) just to “normal”. As usual, I hunted the DX’s but there were not many… In particular, far fewer OK stations than usual ! On the French side, TM5R was producing impressive signals but there seems to be less and less club stations participating in contests in France. So I did a few “run” sessions (calls). Against all odds, each of my calls was answered almost every time, both on the DL and G/GW sides. It was very pleasant ! The average/QSO is much lower than in previous contests. Very little participation also on 10 GHz, I only made 3 QSO’s on this band. I’m not active on 23 and 13 cm, so I have to take 10 GHz skeds on ON4KST but not much activity there either. Radomir, OK5RA was kind enough to send me a recording of my SSB signals at OK2O (908 km) during the contest. The recording is below the map.
